Last year was my first 100 mile race... I knew that I would need to understand the demands of 100 mile in a day if I was planning to enter the Yukon 1000. Jen Fratzke and I had submitted our application already, and were anxiously awaiting the news of acceptance... or rejection.
It took me a long time to wrap my head around what the Yukon 1000 would entail... then we had to assemble an application.
I didn't have a lot of "adventure race" or wilderness experience, I felt like I was a weak link in our application. Jen and I knew the race organizers would be looking at our CRQ100 race... my race went OK to say the least. But Jen, new to the voyager canoe, flipped in the rapids and to prevent hypothermia pulled out of the race! It was a smart and solid call. But would the Yukon race committee be looking and still think we were a liability???
