Friday July 25th 4pm
This one-hour, land-based talk is designed exclusively for 6-man outrigger canoe (OC-6) paddlers who are committed to enhancing their crew's performance and individual contribution. We will delve into the critical principles of paddling efficiency, technique, and biomechanics, providing you with the theoretical knowledge to refine your stroke, prevent injury, and maximize your team's power on the water. This clinic is suitable for paddlers of all levels who seek a deeper understanding of the core concepts behind a cohesive, powerful, and efficient OC-6 stroke.
Clinic Content:
This focused session will provide a comprehensive theoretical foundation, emphasizing how proper individual technique contributes to overall team success. We will cover:
The Biomechanics of a Powerful Stroke:
- A detailed discussion on proper body position and understanding the biomechanics of the paddle stroke specific to outrigger paddling.
- Learning how to theoretically engage the correct muscle groups for each phase of the stroke, which is vital for injury prevention and increasing efficiency for every paddler in the canoe.
- Understanding optimal body and blade position in relation to the OC-6 and the water to optimize performance.
- A theoretical look at the fundamental forward stroke used for propulsion, explaining how the paddle blade enters the water at an angle and draws backward along the side of the canoe.
OC-6 Efficiency & Team Synergy:
- A key focus on team dynamics and the distinctive contribution that each seat makes in an OC-6. Understanding these roles is crucial for overall crew efficiency.
- Theoretical strategies on how an OC-6 crew can capitalize on opportunities, create opportunities, and minimize mistakes.
- Discussion of the finer details of technique and training principles to instill discipline into your individual and team regimen.
By the end of this concentrated land-based session, you will gain a more profound theoretical understanding of proper paddling mechanics, the biomechanics involved, and how these concepts apply to foster greater efficiency and confidence within your OC-6 crew in diverse paddling conditions. You will leave with a clearer sense of what proper OC-6 paddling should feel and look like, providing you with the foundational knowledge to paddle stronger, smarter, and more effectively as a team.
