What is Paddle Training?

Paddle Training is an online resource hub for people looking to become the best paddler they can be. It is more than chasing extrinsic goals, winning races, or mindless training—it’s about the pursuit of health, longevity, and true mastery of the craft, with guidance along the way.

 

It doesn't matter if you paddle SUPs, canoes, or kayaks. Paddle Training is training for paddlers. Period.
It’s for the love of the water, love of the sport, and for the love of ourselves and our community.

 

Whether you’re just getting started, or looking to win a world championship, Paddle Training supports you in excelling at your unique level, toward your unique goals. 
 

Here, you don’t just follow training, you learn how to apply it, adjust it, and make it work for your body and life.

Hi! I’m April, 4 time World Champion, Team USA Elite Outrigger Coach, and living proof that you don’t need to start young to go far. I picked up paddling at 25 and my journey from full on couch potato to World Champion made me the athlete and the coach I am today.
 

If there's one thing I've learned that can help you improve as an athlete and a human, it is cultivating mindfulness.
 

The best training plan in the world won’t help if you don’t know how to listen to your body: to feel effort, fatigue, strength, and readiness.

That’s why Paddle Training isn’t just about plans, it’s about developing athletic intuition, supported by structure and coaching.

You're welcome to shop the plans I have available, but the real magic happens when you train alongside me in the group. Here you'll learn why you’re doing what you’re doing, how to adjust it, and how to evolve into the athlete you want to become.

Progress is determined by how training is interpreted, adjusted, and executed over time. 
 

Punk Paddlers is a group training and coaching environment where you train alongside my framework while learning how to apply it to your body, history, schedule, and goals.
 

It’s not a content library and it’s not 1:1 coaching, it’s access to coaching thinking, delivered in a shared, supportive format.


This isn’t “follow my plan.”

This is learn how to think about your plan.

How it works:

Train Alongside Me

Inside Punk Paddlers, you’ll have visibility into the structure, intent, and progression of the training I’m currently doing myself. This creates a shared rhythm and reference point (not a requirement to match volume, intensity, or performance). The value isn’t copying, it’s understanding why sessions are structured the way they are, and how that logic translates (or doesn’t) to your own situation.

Live Interpretation & Redirection

Most performance mistakes don’t come from bad programs, they come from misapplied ones. Through monthly group calls, you learn how to:

  •  interpret effort, fatigue, and progression

  • adjust training before injury or burnout

  • make sense of “this feels off” moments

360° Performance Context

Training is supported by guidance on:

  • recovery and fatigue management

  • nutrition 

  • mindset, self-regulation, and decision-making

  • resources that shape how you think, not just what you do

The goal isn’t optimization. It’s integration: understanding how the pieces work together.

Punk Paddlers is for athletes who want to understand their training, not just get through it. It’s for athletes who value reflection, feedback, and long-term progress while living full lives.
 

You don’t need to be elite or competitive. You just need to be curious, engaged, and willing to improve.

The real outcome of joining Punk Paddlers isn’t fitness gains alone. It’s better judgment.

Custom Coaching

I want to give you the tools so you can take charge of your own training one day and know exactly what to do to reach your goals while staying healthy. You shouldn't need me forever! Though I'm currently at capacity for one-on-one coaching, if I'm doing my job right, spots will open up.

Sometimes we need extra support, whether we're busy with work and family, or just want a second set of eyes on our training. That's what Custom Coaching is for. I tailor a plan specifically for your needs and goals, then guide you through the execution every step of the way.

 

When spots open back up, waitlisted Punk Paddlers will be invited first.

 

The group training environment helps you understand training plans, mindset, and resources, and it perfectly prepares you for stepping into custom coaching if that's what you're looking for.
